Universal, Sony and Warner file suit against Suno and Udio on 24 June 2024 over training on their recordings, a few months after both services opened song generation from a written prompt to the public.

The market a generated track can serve is the one where music sits behind something else, a bed under a video, a sting, a loop for a shop or a game menu. Deezer, which labels what its detector finds, reported in April 2026 that 44 percent of daily uploads were fully generated, around 75,000 tracks a day, said in July 2026 that the share had passed half, and put the streams those tracks actually draw at 1 to 3 percent of the total. Universal settled with Udio in October 2025 and Warner with both services in November, turning the dispute into licensing rather than answering the question the suits raised. Composers are still hired when the music has to belong to a particular scene, when a rights holder wants a chain of title that holds, and when someone has to be answerable for what went into the track.
