Producing interface mockups and prototypes

Event

On 7 May 2025, at its Config conference, Figma released Make, which turns a written description or an existing design file into a working prototype, inside the tool where interface work is already done.

The billable middle of interface work was the wireframe and the clickable mockup, the two or three days between a brief and something a client could react to. That gap has closed to minutes, and the generated screens arrive already consistent with a component library. The part that resists is upstream and downstream. Deciding what the screen is for, which of five plausible flows matches how the work is actually done, and which convention to break on purpose is still argued between people, and the generators produce the average of what they have seen, which is exactly what a house style is meant not to be.
