Taking the minutes of a meeting

Microsoft makes Teams Premium generally available on 1 February 2023 with an intelligent recap that writes notes, divides the recording into chapters and proposes action items.

Transcription is settled and the summary is close behind, so nobody needs to write down what was said. The minute is not a transcript. It records what was decided, in whose presence, and it is approved at the next meeting by the people who were there, which makes it an act of attestation rather than a piece of writing. Boards, councils, works councils and courts keep human minute takers for that reason, and where the law prescribes a register, a machine cannot sign it. The contest is over the middle ground: the ordinary work meeting, where the automatic recap is now good enough that no one volunteers.
